A meditation corner does not need a spare room. A small, consistent spot tells your mind "this is where I slow down," and that cue makes the habit much easier to keep.

1. Choose the spot

Look for a corner with a little natural light and few distractions. A bedroom nook, the end of a hallway or a spot by a window all work. Facing a wall or window can help your eyes rest.

2. Make the seat comfortable

A firm cushion lifts your hips so your back can stay tall without strain. A bolster or folded blanket can support your knees. If sitting on the floor is not for you, a steady chair is perfect.

3. Add soft light and scent

A candle or a gentle lamp signals the start of practice. If you enjoy scent, a single stick of incense or a candle can become part of your ritual. Always keep flames attended and away from fabrics.

4. Keep one meaningful object

A crystal, a photo of a place you love, a small plant or a written intention. One or two items is plenty. The goal is calm, not clutter.

5. Begin with sound

A bell, chime or singing bowl marks the beginning and end of each sit, so your attention knows when to soften and when to return.

Questions people ask

How big does a meditation space need to be?
Just big enough for a cushion or chair. A small corner used every day works better than a large room used rarely.

What should I put in a meditation corner?
A comfortable seat, soft light, and one or two meaningful objects such as a crystal or a written intention.

Do I need a cushion to meditate?
No. A cushion helps if you sit on the floor, but a steady chair with your feet flat works just as well.
